HOW TO DEAL WITH STRESS AFTER CHILDBIRTH

Parenthood is a miraculous experience, but please ignore all the stress due to tantrums and all the demands of the kids 😊. But if I talk about motherhood, most of the females will accept the fact that yes it is a life-changing experience for a woman. Nourishing a life in your womb will change your perspective towards life and will make you a different person with a great flow of emotions and maturity.

Giving birth is always a tiring affair, no matter what kind of delivery you had, either a Normal delivery or a C-Section. The female body, as well as the mind, will have to face loads of changes be it hormonal, emotional, or physical which are very stressful and overwhelming. I even experienced so many hormonal, physical, and emotional changes.

During both of my pregnancies, I worked full time and took leaves at the peak time only. After giving birth the first thought that came to my mind was “How am I going to manage all this?” Work, kids, and health everything was looking so much challenging to me. Despite the presence of my parents by my side and a supporting husband, nothing seems perfect to me. I am sure, lots of you can easily relate to your situation and the circumstances.

We all faced several situations where we were broken or devastated with our health and stress levels. Sleepless nights and tiring days surely increase the level of stress. If you have an office to attend, I am sure, I can relate with most of you. Not at all easy with the pile of emails and the reports to prepare. All these may lead to postpartum depression.

But later, I realized that taking stress is going to take a toll on your health. Because our thoughts and feelings will directly affect our baby’s thought process. This is how negativity and stress travel from person to person as its all about the vibes.

After all the stress and anxiety I went through, one day I just decided that enough is enough. I can’t live my life like this and I have to take charge of it for the sake of my kids and for myself.

Then I followed few mentioned steps and would like to share them with you as well. I am sure a few of them will definitely help you:

  • Talk talk talk: The main reason for all the stress and depression starts when we stop talking or discussing our feelings with others. Always talk or share what is going on in your mind. What could be the prospective reason giving you stress? Talk to your partner or anyone in the house who can understand your situation. Do not keep the things in your mind and wait for the heap of thoughts to pile up in the mind which can convert into miunderstandings later.
  • Share the Burden: “Don’t stress out but share it out”😉 It is not easy for the new parents or the new moms to manage everything alone. They need help and support to fulfill various tasks. Discuss with your spouse what best you can do and what you can delegate. Ask anyone from the house to take care of the baby for some time when you are doing your office work or busy with household chores. Hire help if you can afford it if you are willing to get the things done from an outsider. Otherwise, delegate the small chores to others so that you will get more time to relax and to get a breath of relief.

  • Sweat it out: Researchers have proved that exercise has a therapeutic effect on our bodies. It works as an antidepressant most of the time. You can opt for walking, running or swimming as well. Walking with your baby in a stroller is a great way to make your mind happy. Walking is a great way to spend time with your baby especially when you are walking outside in the fresh air. Try to walk for few minutes starting from 10-15minutes in a day several times and see the result. It will be theraputic and pull you out of the depression.
  • Indulge in your Interests: I know it is not easy to take out time for the extra activities when you have a pile of laundry and dirty dishes looking at you. But trust me the burden will be less when you will take out 15-20 minutes for the things of your choice. It can be anything reading a book, listening to music, dancing, painting, yoga or Meditation. Just make sure it should be something that makes you happy and connect with you. Do it for yourself, not for others. We all are aware about the benefits of meditation in stress management.
  • Eat healthily and stay hydrated: Always listen to your body. Eating a healthy and balanced diet is the key. Never compromise with the local and the seasonal foods. Trust the ancient spices and the meals offered by your mothers and the grandmothers. They are amazing in their way and prepare the body for the future.
  • Capture the moments: We applied it and it was great stress reliever for me. I use to make small videos and click pictures of various moments with the baby and used to watch them when felt sad. They are great to make me realise that their smile and giggle is everything and I have to look after me to take care of my family.

  • Planning: Yes, planning is everythibg to save yourself from any sort of mismanagement, anxiety or stress. Prepare a list of the things you need and order them. If going out is not possible then you can take the help of ecommerce websites such as amazon, firstcry, noon etc. It will save your time and energy as well. It will save you and your baby from any kind of infection considering the current scenario of Covid situation.

In a nutshell, trust your body and listen to your heart. Live the moment of little joys and giggles. Additionally, when we have a new baby we get overwhelmed, and sometimes it leads to over-exertion as well. Trust me time will fly, kids will grow up and we will regret later not taking care of ourselves when it was needed. That time it will cause depression as we are neglected due to kids and jobs. It is crucial to recover from the stress and all the trauma of delivery and sooner is always better. If we are healthy and happy it is easier to take care of a baby and kids. Cherish the moments and love the change. After few years we all will laugh at the recordings, pictures, and the time which has passed.
